Annual Burdick Dinner will be held Saturday, September 13 in West Fargo
(BISMARCK, ND – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: AUGUST 25, 2014) – The North Dakota Democratic-NPL Party announced today that Senator Tim Kaine, of Virginia, will keynote the party’s 2014 Burdick Dinner.
The annual dinner, named in honor of the late U.S. Senator Quentin Burdick, is the party’s annual fundraising dinner. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at the Cambria Suites Hotel in West Fargo.
“We are very excited to have Senator Kaine address our party. He is a former mayor and governor who understands that both parties have to work together to get things done,” said Chad Oban, executive director of the North Dakota Democratic-NPL Party. “Senator Kaine’s entire career has been dedicated to putting the people’s business ahead of political games. That’s what the North Dakota Democratic-NPL Party believes in and that’s what our candidates are hearing across the state. North Dakotans want to restore balance and bipartisanship to Bismarck.”
“Senator Kaine and I are both moderate Senators focused on real results for our states and the country,” states Senator Heidi Heitkamp. “One of the reasons we get along so well is because we put our heads down, work across the aisle, and focus on fighting for North Dakota’s and Virginia’s families — not political posturing. North Dakotans understandably want Congress to work better for them, and Senator Kaine brings common sense to Washington that is desperately needed.”
About Senator Tim Kaine: Tim Kaine was elected to the United States Senate in 2012, becoming one of just 20 Americans (and the only Virginian) to represent his community as a Mayor, Governor, and United States Senator.
Kaine grew up working in his father’s ironworking shop in Kansas City. He was educated at the University of Missouri and Harvard Law School and started his public service career by taking a year off from Harvard to work with Jesuit missionaries in Honduras in 1980-1981. After law school, he practiced law in Richmond for 17 years and taught part-time at the University of Richmond. Senator Kaine was first elected to office in 1994, serving as a city councilmember and then Mayor of Richmond. He became Lieutenant Governor in 2002 and was elected Virginia’s 70th Governor in 2006. As governor, Virginia was recognized as the best managed state in America and as the best state for business.
Senator Kaine serves on the Senate Armed Services, Budget, and Foreign Relations Committees. He and his wife, Anne Holton, who currently serves as Virginia’s Secretary of Education, are the parents of three grown children. (Information courtesy of Senator Kaine’s office.
