Heitkamp Delivers Keynote Address at Quentin N. Burdick Job Corps Graduation
MINOT, N.D. – U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp today spoke to graduates at the Quentin N. Burdick Job Corps Center about how Job Corps offers students a chance to develop their skills and find careers in fields like health care and manufacturing. One hundred ninety-two students graduated from the program this year.
“The Quentin N. Burdick Job Corps gives so many young people opportunities to increase their educational, career, technical, and social skills,” Heitkamp said. “It’s a place where students grow – both as adults and as workers. I’m so proud of every student here. They all show such amazing promise, and I have no doubt they will do great things.”
Earlier this year, Heitkamp joined a bipartisan group of Senators to press the Senate Appropriations Committees to continue support of the Job Corps program. She also continues to educate colleagues in Washington about the importance of supporting Job Corps and other programs that help students build skills to succeed in today’s economy.
Minot’s Job Corps Center opened in 1994, and is named in honor of former U.S. Senator Quentin N. Burdick of North Dakota. Job Corps is a career technical training program provided to young people ages 16 to 24 through the U.S. Department of Labor. The program aims to improve participants’ quality of life through academic and career technical training, making them more employable and independent.
